Description:

Notes made by Leeds on medieval pottery found in Scarborough, (slip-ware, shapes of pottery, cisterns and notes on the post Reformation period), with a letter to Leeds from H.W. Poulter of the Masonic Hall in Scarborough supplying details of particular vessels found in the Scarborough medieval pottery, 9 January 1926. Leeds created a paper folder within this file to which he gave the title 'Mediaeval and Later'. In this folder Leeds kept letters, 1920-1943, from various correspondents regarding medieval finds, including a letter from G. Hudson, of the Probate Registry in Somerset House regarding a seal on the will of an Oxford token issuer, 15 May 1920, a letter from Alexander Curle enclosing a photograph of artefacts found at Traprain Law, 9 August 1922 and two letters from Arthur Dennis Passmore regarding pottery from Brill and enclosing two photographs of cooking pots, 27 August and 20 September 1943. There is also a typescript copy of a letter sent by Leeds to Commander W.R. Gilbert regarding the discovery of a wine bottle at Compton Castle in Devon, 18 September 1945. In addition, there is a record compiled by Leeds of a sample of the decoration on The Middleton Charter; two envelopes of photographs of the rings found within the Thame Hoard; newscuttings, including a Norwegian newspaper reviewing the first volume of 'History of Norwegian Crafts, 11 August 1936; and a report on the discovery of Medieval tiles at Adderbury Church , 3 September 1936.
