The collection mainly comprises title deeds for land and property in Kingston-on-Soar, West Leake, East Leake, Sutton Bonnington and Gotham in Nottinghamshire. There are also deeds relating to Derbyshire including Darley Abbey, and Normanton le Heath, Leicestershire, 1607-1912 (DD/BK/1). The collection contains financial and business papers, including estate accounts for Kingston, 1795-1910 (DD/BK/4). There is also a series of correspondence addressed to the 1st Lord Belper which includes letters from political, scientific, literary and personal correspondents c1827-1879 (DD/BK/7).

Administrative / biographical background:

The Strutts were textile manufacturers from Belper, Derbyshire, who acquired the Kingston estate, Nottinghamshire c.1820. They built Kingston Hall in the 1840s, and became Lords Belper in 1856.
