Administrative / biographical background:

Upon his succession to the family estate at Cowpen, Marlow Sidney opened a chapel at Cowpen Hall. The present church was built by his son, Marlow John Sidney in 1842. Schools were opened in 1844. In 1860 a gallery was added.
