Administrative / biographical background:

A Roman Catholic mission was established in Alnwick in 1755, by the Jesuits. The chapel of St Mary was built in 1836; in 1984 it was rededicated to St Paul. The original baptism register 1794-1840 is deposited in the Public Record Office, but a copy made c.1840 is with the other registers now in the custody of Northumberland Archives Service and listed below.
