Description:

Three separate manuscripts bound together in this volume by Archbishop Sancroft, in whose hand is a list of contents at f.iv.

1 John Wyclif. 'Historia Vuicleuiana' by Nicholas Harpsfield (d. 1575). Written in a clerk's hand with marginal notes in a second hand in the early seventeenth century. The text is printed in N. Harpsfield, Historia Anglicana ecclesiastica, ed. R. Gibbons, 1622, 661-732. Ownership inscription of John Lumley, 1st Baron Lumley, and the old number 'L.5'.

(ff.1-96).

2 Cuthbert Tunstall, Bishop of Durham. 'De veritate corporis et sanguinis domini nostri Jesu Christi in Eucharistia, Libri duo. Authore Cutheberto Tonstallo Dunelmensi episcopo Anno domini 1551'. Written in a clerk's hand but with a few corrections in Tunstall's hand (e.g. f.210), and some passages deleted and omitted from the edition printed in Paris in 1554 (e.g. 170v and 217v). Ownership inscription erased of Clement Colmore, Canon of Durham (1587). Died 1619. Also the old number 'N.13'.

(ff.98v-223v).

3 Stephen Gardiner, Bishop of Winchester. 'Annotac]ones in Dialogum Johannis Oecolampadii cum suo Nathanaele de mysterio Eucharistico Disceptantis'. Anonymous and undated but the attribution to Gardiner by Sancroft is accepted by J.A. Muller (Stephen Gardiner and the Tudor reaction, 1926, 316), who believes the manuscript may have been written in the Tower and that passages in Greek may be in Gardiner's hand.

(ff.225-333v).
