Administrative / biographical background:

In 1881, David Gestetner invented the first stencil duplicator and promptly began production. The company continued to grow and eventually a new head office and large factory were established at Broad Lane, Tottenham in 1904. The Gestetner name was known world wide for its stencil duplicators and offset press-printing machines and the company had up to 6,000 employees up to the 1970's. In 1985, manufacturing moved to Wellingborough, Northamptonshire and the company is currently part of the NRG Group plc.
