Administrative / biographical background:

The Incorporation of the North Metropolitan Railway Company occurred 15 August 1853, and was associated with Charles Pearson, a City Solicitor. It was initiated by a 3.5 mile line from Paddington to Farringdon Street (Farringdon) subscribed to by the City Corporation and the Great Western Railway Company. Its success has been evident through its expansion into the circular line, and in more recent years the development of the Thames Link service expanding the line out of London.
