Description:

The list was issued at Madras by the Adjutant General and was printed at the Asylum Press for the benefit of the Military Male Orphan Society or the Ootacamund Lawrence Asylum. British Army units stationed in Madras are included from 1810. An abridged monthly list runs concurrently with the main quarterly list from 1885. A separate Civil Service section appears in the quarterly issues from June 1843, and between January 1845 and July 1856 there is also a separate list of the Nizam's Army or the Hyderabad Contingent, which is subsequently incorporated in the main list. War Services appear regularly from 1860, being half-yearly from 1867, both quarterly and monthly from 1885, and quarterly from 1888.
