Administrative / biographical background:

In 1885 a Nursing Association was formed to provide nurses to attend the sick unable to visit the Market Harborough Dispensary. A small cottage in St. Mary's Road was used initially and in 1910 the "Market Harborough and District Nursing Association and Cottage Hospital" was built on Coventry Road. It provided two wards of four beds each and two private wards, with a staff of four.
