The Outline Plan Inquiry considered specific proposals for the development of the Grimsargh area under section 6(1) of the New Towns Act. An application for a Compulsory Purchase Order had previously been made and design work by the CLDC and Building Design Partnership and a pilot study to identify hedgerows of high landscape value (NTC 15/1/2) were undertaken.

However, the decision by the Department of the Environment was that Grimsargh and Haighton should be excluded from the Designated Area and that the CPO order should not be confirmed.
