Title: Papers concerning the estate of Sir Andrew Chadwick (d. 1768)
Description:

Disputes arising from the unwitnessed will of Sir Andrew Chadwick (1684-1768) were not resolved even when, some 30 years after his death, his personal property had been distributed to those named in his will who had established their case in the courts. Into the nineteenth century claimants were still coming forward for his real estate, which was not devisable by will. The papers in this collection allege fraud in the claim, upheld in court in 1842, of John (Chadwick) of Westleigh, and show the actions of various other Chadwick claimants (including the depositor) in the 1890s, 1920s and 1950s-60s to reclaim land and property they saw as theirs.
