Administrative / biographical background:

The Thornton Cleveleys District Nursing Association was founded in 1923. In 1948 its function of providing nursing care for the local community was taken over by the County Council as a result of the National Health Service Act, 1948. The Association then became the Thornton Cleveleys Sick Aid Charity which transferred its funds to the Bryan Wyers Memorial Fund to help establish the Trinity Hospice, in 1985.
