Administrative / biographical background:

Colin Sharp was the son of Dr. Henry Sharp of South Shore, Blackpool (26 Jul. 1816 - 21 Feb. 1903). He was educated at Thorp Arch School near Harrogate and acted as a special constable in Blackpool during World War I. He did not marry, but lived for many years with his mother at Wrea Green, having no career but engaging in market gardening as a hobby. After the death of his mother, in 1925 he became a paying guest with Mrs. Frank Williams, a widow at Wrea Green and subsequently removed with her to Morecambe, c. 1932, and to Arnside c.1937. He died in a nursing home in Yorkshire, aged about 86, in 1943. The original depositor, N.S.P. Williams, Esq., was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williams but it was only after his death that the greater part of Colin Sharp's accumulation of family papers came to light.
