Title: | HIGHWAYS AND FOOTPATH DIVERSIONS |
Description: |
These documents were removed from the order rolls in 1951, to enable them to be indexed and more readily consulted. Not all of them were removed, therefore both series Q/SR and Q/SRh should be checked. Orders by two or more justices, under Acts of 1773 (13 Geo. III, c.78, ss.19-22) and 1815 (55 Geo. III, c.68) for the diversion or stopping up of highways and footpaths. The orders are sometimes accompanied by certificates of completion, and sometimes by other documents such as the landowner's written consent and -after 1835-affidavits of parish surveyors. The plans are often trifling, but some are well drawn and cover considerable areas. This legal procedure still continues under provisions of the Highways Act, 5 & 6 Wm. IV, c.50, ss.82-92 (1835). Letters in reference numbers are as follows: A - EASTER B - TRINITY C - MICHAELMAS D - EPIPHANY |
