Administrative / biographical background:

The Rural Sanitary Authority set up in 1872 under the control of the Guardians of Wheatenhurst Union was superseded in 1895 by the Wheatenhurst Rural District Council. By virtue of the 1935 County of Gloucester Review Order the council was dissolved and the area under its control transferred to Gloucester Rural District
