Administrative / biographical background:

The Rural Sanitary Authority set up in 1872 under the control of the Guardians of Tewkesbury Union was superseded in 1895 by a Rural District Council. By the County of Gloucester Review Order of 1935 Tewkesbury Rural District was dissolved and its constituent parishes transferred to Cheltenham Rural District
