The Rural Sanitary Authority administered by the Guardians of Newent Union, set up in 1872, was superseded in 1895 by the Rural District Council. Redmarley D'Abitot and Staunton, two Worcestershire parishes in Newent Union, were formed into a separate Rural District in 1895, but controlled by Newent Rural District Council. In 1931 both parishes were transferred to Gloucestershire under the Transfer Order of that year and subsequently came under direct control of the Rural District Council
