Administrative / biographical background:

The Rural Sanitary Authority set up under the control of the Guardians of Cirencester Union, in 1872 was succeeded in 1895 by the Rural District Council. In 1935 the parish of Lechlade, formerly in Faringdon Rural District, became part of the Cirencester Rural District.
