Administrative / biographical background:

The Rural Sanitary Authority set up in 1872 under the control of the Guardians of the Shipston-on-Stour Union was responsible for the administration of the Gloucestershire parishes within that Union until 1894. In 1895 these parishes came under the control of the newly-formed Campden Rural District Council. In 1931, by the Gloucestershire to Worcestershire Transfer Order, several parishes formerly administered by the Pebworth Rural District Council were transferred to Worcestershire and the remainder were included in Campden Rural District. By virtue of the 1935 County of Gloucester Review Order Campden Rural District Council was dissolved and the area transferred to the newly-formed North Cotswold Rural District
