Administrative / biographical background:

A Local Board of Health for Newnham was set up in 1863 and remained in operation until superseded by an Urban District Council in 1895. This was abolished under the terms of the County of Gloucester Review Order, 1935, and from that date Newnham became part of the Gloucester Rural District
