Administrative / biographical background:

A Mangotsfield Parochial Committee was set up in 1890 under the Keynsham Union Rural Sanitary Authority and was continued by that body's successor, Warmley Rural District Council. Under the provisions of the Gloucestershire (Mangotsfield Urban District) Confirmation Order, 1927, the parish was divided into Mangotsfield Urban and Mangotsfield Rural, the former to be governed by an Urban District Council

 

Following the reorganisation of local government in April 1974, Mangotsfield Urban District Council was merged with Kingswood Urban and Warmley Rural District Councils, and transferred to the new county of Avon
