Administrative / biographical background:

The church was founded in 1670. In 1694 The Old Meeting church was built. It was restored in 1762 following the Wareham fire. In 1789 a group of members holding to the original tenets of their faith, as opposed to Arianism, left The Old Meeting and built a separate chapel in West Street. They reunited in 1849. In 1828 another group left the Old Meeting, to form a Unitarian Chapel in South Street. The church was renovated in 1878.
