Administrative / biographical background: |
Note that the manor of Tregear (and also Burneir) belonged to the Bishop of Exeter before 1066, and that the manor of Tregear became vested in the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, (hodie the Church Commissioners; the Commissioners' deeds for Exeter episcopal estates, including Tregear, are at Devon Record Office to 1869). Therefore the lessees granted lease and life estates (see ESTATE, leases) and there were copyhold grants, see X689/2. (There were outlying parts of the manor in St. Michael Penkivel, north of the Fal and in Feock, west of the Fal). |
