Administrative / biographical background: |
The National Association of Local Government Officers (NALGO) was founded in 1905. The first annual conference took place in 1918 and in 1920, NALGO became a certified trade union. In 1952, the association changed its title to the National and Local Government Officers Association, but retained the short form NALGO. The association became affiliated to the TUC in 1964. In 1993, NALGO merged with NUPE and COHSE to form the new UNISON Union. The records listed below relate to the administration and activities of the Chester City Branch and Chester Rural Branch. These amalgamated with Tarvin Rural Council Branch in November 1973 to form the Chester District Branch prior to local government reorganisation in April 1974. |
