Immediate source of acquisition:

The plans were purchased by Mr A.A. Jones at Christies in 1987 who presented them to the Office in April 1988 (AR 49/88) and September 1989 (AR 93/89). His son Mr P. Jones presented other plans in July 1994 (AR 75/94).

Administrative / biographical background:

The property was originally owned by the London and North Western Railway (L.N.W.R.). Between 1923 and 1947 this became the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (L.M.S.R.) and then the London Midland Region of British Railways after nationalisation in 1948.

 

Many plans bear the stamp of the estate offices at Rugby and Euston.
