Manorial records, deeds and estate papers of Hinton Waldrist estate

 

The papers listed below form but a fragment of the large and important accumulation of Loder-Symonds MSS. This collection was reported on by the Hist. MSS. Commission in 1892 (13th Report, App.IV.) but about 1934 the bulk was dispersed by sale, some ultimately coming into the custody of the Brotherton Library, Leeds. The owner retained the important farm accounts of Robert Loder, 1610-20 (Acc 772 D/ELS: A8) published in the Camden Society Series (3rd Series, vol.LIII), and also a small number of family papers including a pedigree, c.1715. The documents listed below were found at Hereford about 1950. consists mainly of estate papers relating to the family's estate at Hinton Waldrist, 1572-1921. The most significant individual item is the farm account book of Robert Loder of Princes Manor Farm, Harwell, 1610 - 1620 (published by the Camden Society, 1936). Other items of interest include detailed farm accounts kept for John Loder, 1677 - 1679, and an almanac and pocket diary for 1655 believed to have been kept by the regicide Henry Marten (a former owner of the Hinton estate).
