[Amersham Hall was a small private school, described in the Post Office directory of 1869 as "collegiate". The address indicates Mr West had run the school since c.1835. The subscribers, all former pupils of Mr West, founded an annual scholarship of £30 at University College, London, in "English subjects" to be called the West Scholarship. The school appears to have closed or moved premises in c.1894, when the site was taken over by Queen Anne's School for Girls. See D/EX 1462/1 for minutes of meetings of former pupils, 1931-1938.] |
