Introduction; [The Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Junction Railway Company was incorporated in 1873, and renamed the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway Company in 1883. It was absorbed by the Great Western Railway Company in 1923. The main archives are held at the Public Record Office (classes RAIL 156 and 1057).

 

The line ran from Didcot to Shawford, Hants, via Compton, Hampstead Norreys, Newbery, Whitchurch (Hants) and Winchester, and it was proposed to extend it to Southampton. It closed in the 1960s.
