Three messuages in Highstreete, viz. one [C] now or late held or occupied by Peter Hill, mercer, between the land of George Parfey on S. and the land of Michael Pepwall on N.; extending from the street in front on E. to Parfrey's land behind on W.; one called the greene lettys [E] now or late held by John Doughtie, between the land of Phillip Langley, gent., on S., and the land of Frauncis Knight, Alderman, on N., extending from the street in front on E. to the newe Inne behind on W.; and one other [B] held by Ralph Wright, mercer, between the land of Richard Cole on S. and the land of Ralph Hurte on N., extending from the street in front on W. [sic] to the lane called the Throughouse [now called Adam and Eve lane, in the margin] behind.

 

Three messuages [now 1 messe] in Cornestreet, viz. two now or late of Richard Richardes, bookebinder, and Phillip Gardener, grocer, together between the parish church of All Saints on W. and the land late of Thomas Marburie, now or late of Gardener on E.; extending from the street in front on N.; and one other now or late of Richard Barnes, notarie publique, between All Saints' church on E. and S. and Corn Street and the New Inne lane on N. and W.

 

One messuage [A] in Broadstreate now or late of Ephraim Goodyeare, between the land of Thomas Gilbert, sadeler, on S. and W., the land of the Company of Taylors on N. and the street in front on E.

 

One messuage in Smallstreete now or late of Bartholomew Elliott, between the land of Thomas Hopkins, merchant, on S. and W., the land of John Barker, merchant, on N. and the street behind on E.

 

Four messuages together in Lewensmead [See deed of 9 Feb. 1568 and foll, in margin: LM A 15 ff.], between the land of William Spicer, gent., on W., the land of Richard George the younger, brewer, on E., the street in front on N. and Froome water behind on S. Two are now or late of Margarett Calvart, widow; the other two of John Newton, carpenter, and Johan's Conant, widow. And one well [C] enclosed about with a wall in length by estimation ten foot and in breadth seven foot or thereabouts, now or late of Richard George, near adjoining the wall of the land called the Friers.

 

One messuage [St James see the same deed now 4 mess.] with stable, garden and backside adjoining, now or late of Henry Gibbes, brewer, in the parish of S. James at or near the end of Turneagain lane [now Bridewell lane, in margin], between Froome water on S. and the land of William Colston, merchant, on W., the lands late of Robert Brayne decd. on E. and a piece of void ground now used to a garden, and the ground of Thomas harris, sayler, on N.

 

Five messuages in S. James Back [See the same deeds, in margin] between the land of George Colston, gent., on N., the land of Edward Rickardes on S., the street on W. and the land late of William Chester on E. Two are now or late of Edmond Swyper; the others severally are of Mathew Honywell, Richard Snooke and Margarett Casey, widow.

 

Four messuages [Now 3 mess. and gardens] with two gardens in the Pitty als Pithey, now or late severally of John James and Richard Hargest; one garden [Now a bowling green] with a great lodge in the same, now or late of Marie Langley, widow; one other garden with a little lodge or penthouse, now or late of Richard Boswell; another .. of Richard Wright; one other .. with a way or entry to the same, now or late of Hugh Perd; one other now or late of Robert Colston; one other now or late of Richard Petyngall; [Now 3, now built on] and a lane or passage leading to some of the gardens. All are between the land of Thomas Younge and Robert Perry, gent., on E., certain tene. upon the town wall by Tower lane on W., the stable of Philip Langley and S. John's almshouse on N., and the street on S.

 

Two gardens in the parish of S. Phillipp in the city; one [Query A] is now or late of Hercules Fyppen', between the lands of Thomas Sandford and the land late of John Sanford decd. on E. and W.; the Old Markett on S. and the land of William Baldwyn, brewer, on N.; the other [Query if not formerly B] is now or late of Marie Robins, widow, between the land of Sir George Snigg Kt., one of the Barons of the Kings Highnes Court of Exchequer, on W., the land of Robert Pentecrist on E., a great ditch on S. and a lane leading towards S. Philip's church on N.

 

One messuage called the Berrhouse [sic] of Allhallowes, now or late of Joyce Botomley, widow, between the New Inne now held by Christofer Whitson, merchant, on S., the house of Oliver Snell on E. and the churchyard of All Saints' on N.

 

One piece of ground enclosed with a pale, adjoining the window of William Slade, lately taken out of All Saints church lane; containing in length twenty foot and four foot in breadth; and a passage-way by a cellar door out of Slade's house into the church lane, now used and held by him at a yearly rent of 2s. 8d.

 

The way by a door out of Oliver Snell's house into church lane, for which he pays a yearly rent to the parish of 12d.

 

Certain chambers and rooms built over the church way leading to the church, now or late held by George Colston at a yearly rent of 6s. 8d.

 

A yearly rent of £3 payable by the Mayor and Cominaltie for the Castle Mills in or near the city [Broad Street C].

 

A yearly rent of 26s. 8d. out of the Taylors Hall [The same].

 

A yearly rent of 3s. 4d. heretofore paid by William Hawre, Alderman, for the passage of a gutter to and through the lands in the parish which he holds of the Dean and Chapter of the Holy Trinity.

 

A yearly rent of 20s. heretofore paid by the Chamberlain of the time, for and towards the reparation of the pipe or conduit of All Saints.

 

A yearly rent of £3. 6s. 8d. out of a messuage called the Rose [High Street A] now or late of Phillipp Langley, gent., between his other land on S. and the land of the parish church on N. and High Street on E.; containing in breadth thirteen foot and a half and in length ninety foot or thereabouts.

 

A yearly rent of £3. 6s. 8d. out of a messuage and void ground called the new markett [Broad Street B], now or late of Mathew Havyland, Abell Kitchen and John Roberrowe, purchased of the same, in Broad Streete; between the land of Edward Hereford, commonly called the White Lyon, on S., the land of the Dean and Chapter on N., Tower lane on E. and the street on W.

 

A yearly rent of 8d. paid by Thomas Younge for a passage-way by a door in the Pithey near the gardens aforementioned.

 

Covenant by each feoffer to confirm grant etc. free of encumbrance. Attorneys Richard Barnes and William Pester, gent.
