Yalu River

River forming much of the border between China and Korea.

Yangtze

Longest river in Asia. Traditionally considered the dividing line between North and South China.

Yom Kippur

The holiest day of prayer and fasting in the Jewish calendar, known in English as the Day of Atonement. Climax of the Yamim Noraim (Days of Awe). Jews traditionally observe this holiday with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer.

Yom Kippur War

On 6 October 1973 a coalition of Arab states (led by Egypt and Syria) launched surprise attacks on Israel on the day of Yom Kipur, the Jewish day of Atonement, in an attempt to regain lands lost in 1967. The war lasted only 20 days and was ended by a UN-brokered cease-fire. It led to the oil crisis of 1973.
