Project description
Projects will be tailored to the student’s conservation specialism and the live priorities of the Collection Care studios. Each placement will explore how conservation treatments and preventive strategies can be designed, tested, and applied to support the long-term stability of archival and library collections.
Activities may include interventive treatments, development and evaluation of treatment approaches, condition assessment, documentation, rehousing, and support for digitisation or exhibition preparation. Where relevant, students may also use technical analysis or imaging to inform treatment decisions.
Work will be integrated into active studio projects, with supervision from conservators and heritage scientists. Outputs may include treatment reports, condition assessments, treatment trials or mock-ups, and a short reflective or public facing piece communicating the project’s outcomes.
Please note that this placement is outside of the 20-day maximum limit that is normal for other placements.
