About
Rachel is currently the Deputy Head of the Education and Outreach at The National Archives. The team work with school students, young people, families and communities, to provide meaningful opportunities for engagement with the collection. Rachel has led on the development of programming for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and young people. She has co-authored three books for Bloomsbury on using archives in education. She is also a trained Arts Award facilitator.
Rachel previously worked as an Education Manager, primary school teacher and history coordinator in the state sector.
Research activity
Rachel has a strong interest in using archives for formal and informal learning. She has explored creative ways to engage learners with the collection, including filmmaking, artwork and drama. She is passionate about demystifying The National Archives and making it a place that welcomes a range of different audiences, from SEND learners and students to small children. She aims to make audiences feel inspired to think critically, make personal connections and enjoy the value of finding out about the past.
