Historian Nandini Das discusses her latest book This Little World.
Fran Monks
In the 16th and 17th centuries, a powerful image of England was forged: Shakespeare’s ‘scepter’d isle’ – proud, independent, and defined by royal spectacle and myth.
But England at this time was far from insular. From Venetian glassmakers and African innkeepers to Japan’s first English samurai and the Flemish painter who served four English monarchs, learn about the overlooked stories of the adventurous people who travelled to and from England in this period.
Join Nandini as she discusses her book This Little World, offering a new vision of England's global past. It is the story of a nation in the making, told through the lives of those often written out of it.
Nandini will be in conversation with Neil Johnston, Head of Early Modern Records at The National Archives. Their conversation will last approximately 30–40 minutes, followed by an audience Q&A.
