On the evening of 4 November 1605, Guy Fawkes was discovered underneath the Houses of Parliament with several barrels of gunpowder, ready to blow up King James I and his government during the state opening of Parliament the following day.
Join Dan Gosling, collections specialist at The National Archives as he highlights the parliamentary, legal and state records we hold. These detail what happened in the immediate aftermath of the discovery of Guy Fawkes, including the manhunt for the other conspirators, the interrogation and trial of the plotters, and the discussions in parliament about how to punish these men and commemorate this historic act of treason.

What you need to join
