Project Management for Archives Revealed

Date and time

Tuesday 6 October, 12:00 to 13:00

Location

Online

This session will be a recorded project management webinar focused on the specific needs of Archives Revealed applicants and will be application-focused, practical, and example-led. The planning section, milestones template and budget spreadsheet are areas applicants often find challenging, so it would be useful to address them directly.

The webinar could use these materials as the core structure, and we could use an Archives Revealed project to show how an initial idea develops into a clear plan, realistic milestones, and a properly costed budget. This would help applicants understand what the panel need to see in order to make an award.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what makes an Archives Revealed project realistic and deliverable including clear aims, achievable outputs and organisational readiness.
  • Turn a project idea into a structured application plan breaking activity into clear stages, milestones, timelines, and dependencies.
  • Complete the milestones template effectively to show progress and delivery.
  • Budget realistically and transparently, explaining how costs have been calculated.
  • Identify and manage project risks, recognising common archive project risks and proposing mitigations.
  • Recognise the importance of staffing, governance and support, ensuring project staff, freelancers, consultants, or volunteers have appropriate management, induction, and organisational backing.
  • Use Archives Revealed application tools with confidence, understanding how the planning section, milestones template and budget spreadsheet work together to present a credible project.

Why This Collection Matters: Writing a Statement of Significance

Date and time

Thursday 22 October 2026, 12:00 to 13:00

Location

Online

This recorded webinar is designed to support Archives Revealed applicants to assess the significance of their chosen collection and turn that thinking into a clear, persuasive statement of significance for their application. It draws on the applicant guidance, current and past project examples, and covers scoping, cataloguing and consortium grant applications.

This event aims to:

  • Demystify what Archives Revealed means by “significance” and why it matters in assessment.
  • Help applicants focus on the specific collection they want to unlock, rather than the wider organisation or archive service.
  • Support applicants to identify the strongest evidence for the collection’s value, relevance and potential public benefit.
  • Give applicants a practical structure for drafting, testing and refining a statement of significance.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain what a statement of significance is and how it differs from a general collection description.
  • Identify the most important aspects of their chosen collection, including rarity, provenance, evidential value, research value, community value, representational value and audience relevance.
  • Use prompting questions to carry out a proportionate significance assessment with colleagues, users, communities or subject specialists.
  • Draft a focused statement that links the collection’s significance to access, cataloguing need, audience benefit and Archives Revealed strategic priorities.
  • Recognise common weaknesses in significance statements and revise their own draft for clarity, evidence and impact.

Planning and Evaluating Impact with Generic Learning Outcomes

Dates and times

Tuesday 10 November 2026, 11:00 to 16:00

Wednesday 11 November 2026, 11:00 to 16:00

Location

Birmingham Central Library

Join us for an in-person Archives Revealed training workshop exploring how Generic Learning Outcomes can support project planning, evaluation and advocacy. This practical session will introduce Generic Learning Outcomes as a flexible tool for understanding the wider learning and engagement impact of archive projects – from changes in knowledge and skills to attitudes, behaviours, creativity and sensory engagement.

Participants will consider how to plan activities with clear outcomes in mind, gather meaningful qualitative evidence, and map that evidence to the GLOs for use in evaluation reports, future funding applications and advocacy work. The workshop will include examples from Birmingham-based Archives Revealed projects, alongside practical activities and shared resources to help participants apply the approach to their own work.

Please note this event will run on two separate dates. Please only register for one of the two available dates.

Emerging Technologies and Archives

Date and time

To be confirmed

Location

Online

A practical training programme designed to help archivists and cultural heritage professionals build confidence in understanding and engaging with digital change. Across four standalone sessions, participants will explore how emerging technologies are shaping archival practice, from AI and data management to born-digital records and digital preservation.

The course assumes no specialist technical knowledge and is designed to support professionals with varying levels of digital confidence. Each session introduces key concepts, terminology, opportunities, and challenges through accessible, sector-specific examples that connect directly to everyday archival work.

Participants will gain a stronger understanding of how technologies are changing the way archives are managed, preserved, described, and accessed. The programme also encourages critical reflection on the ethical, legal, social, and professional implications of technological change, supporting practitioners to make informed decisions in their own organisational contexts. By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to identify their own digital skills needs, explore future learning pathways, and take practical steps towards building digital confidence and capability within their organisation.

Please check back for a confirmed date and the link to register for this event.
