Other information

In 1872 Dover Borough Counil leased the Cottage Hospital and laundry from Dr Astley to use as an infectious diseases hospital, purchasing the hospital in 1894. It received numerous classes of infectious cases, not including smallpox (these were sent to Poulton Hospital). There was extensive reconstruction from 1928. All patients (infectious and geriatric) were transferred to Buckland Hospital in 1974. The building is now the Dover Eye Unit.
