Other information
An Eye and Ear Infirmary was opened in St George's Square, Portsea on 21 December 1821 but does not appear to have remained open more than ten years. In 1884 the Portsmouth and Southern Counties Eye and Ear Hospital opened in Pembroke Road, Old Portsmouth, only to be gutted by enemy action in 1941. The hospital moved to Wenham Holt at Liss and in 1945 took up residence in the Convent of the Holy Cross in Grove Road North, Southsea. It stayed there until its removal to Queen Alexandra's Hospital in 1971.
