Other information

The Sanatorium opened as a Smallpox Hospital in 1902. It was converted from a smallpox hospital and opened to receive Tuberculosis patients in 1911. Run by the Town Council the hospital took only nineteen patients and in 1919 Beach Lodge, formerly the gardeners' cottage at Langstone, was converted to take TB children. Extra accomodation was added in 1931 but the sanatorium closed in 1950.
