Other information

Established by Cardiff Poor Law Union in grounds of Ely Lodge Children's Homes 1903. Essentially, Ely Hospital was a Poor Law Institution before 1948 serving both as a hospice and a hospital for mental patients. 1903 is the first date we can discover for the hospital. As in the case of Many Poor Law Institutions, its medical functions evolved over a number of years from the other services of the PLU.
