The 1930 Hospital Year Book states that Rubery Hill Hospital and the Hollymoor Annexe did research work and offered 'specialised treatment'. Hollymoor was used as an emergency hospital in World War II, whether or not as a mental hospital isn't stated in the year books. There is a reference in the Hospital Records Register at the CMAC at the Wellcome Institute to a military psychiatric hospital in Northfield and the activities of a Dr Tom Harrison, which may relate to the Rubery Hill/Hollymoor Hospitals in Northfield. There is also a reference to the 'Northfield experiments'. By 1949 the Hollymoor Hospital was recognisably distinct from Rubery Hill Hospital. It held 590 patients, falling slowly to 490 by 1984, and then dropping rapidly to 139 by 1994. The hospital closed in 1995, with Solihull Healthcare NHS Trust leasing accommodation from Solihull Hospital for its acute mental health services day hospital instead.
