Other information

South Lodge Isolation Hospital was opened in 1940 by the North Hertfordshire Joint Hospital Board to deal with cases of scarlet fever in the Baldock area. It was a daughter institution of Letchworth and Hitchin Isolation Hospital together with the Langley Smallpox Hospital. The North Hertfordshire Joint Hospital Board consisted of representatives from Hitchin Rural District Council and Hitchin and Letchworth Urban District councils. The hospital itself closed in 1945.
