Seals Burn Hospital, near Ryton Woodside, was an isolation hospital for smallpox cases. It was formally opened by the Blaydon, Ryton and Whickham Joint Hospital Board on 8 April 1907, but prior to that date was operated by Ryton Urban District Council. Closed in 1927.
