Other information
Davenham Hospital was opened in 1905 by the Northwich and District Joint Hospital Board. This Board, consisting of representatives of Northwich Rural District Council and Northwich, Middlewich and Winsford Urban District Councils, was established in 1900 under Section 279 of the Public Health Act, 1875, to provide facilities for the treatment of infectious deseases. In 1945 it was reported to have 64 beds, but the Ministry of Health report in which these figures appear noted that the capacity was 'considerably overstated'. With the advent of the Natinal Health Service in 1948, it pased to the North and Mid-Cheshire Hospital Management committee, part of the Manchester Regional Hospital Board. From 1954 to 1968 it was linked with the Victoria Infirmary, Northwich, under a single House Committee. In 1968 the Hospital was transferred to South Cheshire Hospital Management Committee, until the abolition of that committee in 1974. In 1972 it had 32 beds. The Hospital is now closed.
