MoD Retention instruments (Calvine UFO incident)

Request

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 regarding the retention of Ministry of Defence (MoD) records.

Specifically, I am inquiring about records related to the 'Calvine UFO Incident' (August 1990, Perthshire, Scotland), which reportedly include original photographic negatives and witness statements.

As these records are now over 30 years old, they fall under the mandatory transfer requirements of the Public Records Act 1958. I request the following:

  1. Retention Instruments: Copies of any 'Retention Instruments' or 'Section 3.4' authorizations granted to the Ministry of Defence to withhold records specifically related to the Calvine incident from transfer to The National Archives.
  2. Correspondence on Transfer: Any correspondence between The National Archives (TNA) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) dated between 2010 and 2026 regarding the selection, appraisal, or delayed transfer of files containing the 'Calvine' or 'Perthshire 1990' photographs.
  3. Search Terms: Please confirm if your internal tracking systems for pending transfers (accessioning logs) show any entries for the keywords 'Calvine,' 'Diamond-shaped craft,' or 'A70 incident.'

Outcome

Information not held.

Response

The National Archives does not hold any information about retention or transfers of records which meet the criteria outlined in your request.
