Equality and diversity

The National Archives aims to be an inclusive organisation, reflecting the diverse needs and aspirations of employees and visitors, promoting equality of access for all.

At The National Archives, we are committed to tackling barriers to participation by creating a culture that encourages respect and values difference.

For more information on our commitment to equality and diversity, please see our policy.

Our commitment

Disability Confident

Being a Disability Confident employer means The National Archives is benefitting from diverse skills and making a difference to the disability employment gap.

As part of the Disability Confident Scheme, The National Archive are committed to offering an interview to a fair and proportionate number of disabled applicants that meet the minimum selection criteria for the job.

We hope this commitment will encourage people with disabilities to apply for jobs and provide an opportunity to demonstrate their skills, talent and abilities at the interview stage.

Onvero

The National Archives is a member of Onvero (formerly Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion).

Accessibility

It is important to us that our building and services are accessible for all visitors and staff.

Staff forums and action groups

We currently have staff networks focused on LGBT+, racial and neurodiverse equality, as well as other forums.

These groups support our staff through mentoring, social networks, and also help to raise awareness of the EDI concerns that affect The National Archives and its employees.

Contemplation and prayer room

We have contemplation and prayer rooms available on site. The rooms are a quiet space for private acts of worship by staff of all religions and for staff requiring contemplation time.
