These case studies offer practical examples of how archive services have implemented digital preservation processes and systems in their organisations. Each study covers their paths to digital preservation, stakeholder engagement, and the barriers that they have overcome. The case studies also provide useful tips for other archive professionals, including those who are just starting to establish digital preservation practices in their workplace.

University of Brighton Design Archives

The University of Brighton Design Archives is currently in the early stages of its digital journey, procedure mapping the work it needs to do over the next 12 months, with the Archive Service Accreditation process acting as a key driver.

Gloucestershire Archives

Gloucestershire Archives undertakes digital preservation with software called SCAT, a digital packager which creates Archival Information Packages suitable for long-term preservation.


Since 2012, HSBC has been scoping and implementing a comprehensive digital preservation project, based around a customised in-house digital repository provided by Preservica, which interacts with a cataloguing management tool.

The Postal Museum

The Postal Museum is currently transitioning to digital preservation and in the longer term the organisation is exploring cloud storage and optical disk archive storage.
