The archives that have been supported by Archives Revealed are diverse in many ways:
in holding institution: including public sector or local authority archives, national bodies, charities of every size and shape, universities and academic institutions, libraries, museums, art galleries, religious organisations, schools, clubs and societies, and community and voluntary groups, even those without any staff.
in media: featuring all types of documentary media, including manuscript, printed, photographic, audio-visual, maps and plans, architectural drawings, textile samples, art and digital objects.
in creator: including local authorities, activist and community organisations, businesses, charities, religious bodies and individuals, including engineers, scientists, journalists, photographers, artists, politicians, authors and explorers.
in subject matter: from Thomas Cook Travel to Thomas Hardy’s correspondence, from the Black Arts Movement of the 1980s to the Franklin Arctic Expedition, and from the Terrence Higgins Trust tackling HIV to the 2017 Manchester bombings.
Each of the over 150 grants awarded by Archives Revealed might have something or nothing in common with the next, in its content – but each collection has been of public interest and of meaning to its community. Each showed great potential to inspire wider engagement with heritage but first needed funding to be scoped, catalogued and unlocked for its community.
