Other information

This hospital comprises three former Poor Law institutions; Crumpsall, Springfields and Delaunays. The amalgamation took place in 1977. Manchester Board of Guardians opened the New Bridge Street Workhouse and hospital in 1792. Then the Guardians built a new workhouse on a new site in 1855 - Park House, later Springfield Hospital. In 1876 a new hospital, Crumpsall, was built adjoining Park House. Meanwhile Prestwich Board of Guardians had built a workhouse and hospital, Delaunays, in 1869, adjoining the new Manchester Workhouse, Park House. In 1815 Prestwich and Manchester Unions meged to form one Manchester Union. In 1930 Springfield, Crumpsall and Delaunays were transferred to Manchester County Borough Council.
