Cloakroom and lockers
Our ground floor cloakroom contains free lockers for storing coats, bags, food, drink, and other items that are not permitted in our document reading rooms.
Using our lockers
All visitors can use our lockers for free.
Please note that bags larger than 43cm x 42cm x 24cm will not fit into them. You cannot bring bags larger than this into our building. You can find local luggage storage providers by searching on www.stasher.com.
If you are visiting to do research using original documents, our lockers are important, as they allow you to store items that you cannot bring into our document reading rooms. For full details of what you can and cannot bring into our reading rooms, please see our visitor regulations.
- Each locker has simple instructions explaining how to lock it with a four-digit code that you choose. You will need to remember both your locker number and the four-digit code that you set.
- Our lockers are cleaned regularly, and sanitising gel is provided for your comfort and convenience.
- All items are left in the cloakroom at the owner's risk. We accept no responsibility for loss or damage.
- All items left in the cloakroom overnight will be removed and treated as lost property by our security team – please speak to them if you misplace anything.
Bags to take into our reading rooms
The cloakroom contains clear plastic bags that you can use to carry permitted items into the reading rooms.
These bags are normally strong enough to carry laptops, but you are advised to take extra care if using them for this purpose.

Prams and buggies
There is a buggy park signposted in our Welcome Hall where you can leave buggies, at your own risk.
