Easter weekend closure

Due to scheduled maintenance, The National Archives will be closed over the Easter bank holiday weekend. Our building and grounds will close to the public at 17:00 on Thursday 2 April and reopen at 11:00 on Tuesday 7 April. Please check our website for the latest updates before travelling. Cloakroom and lockers

We offer free lockers for storing coats, bags, food and other items that are not permitted in our document reading rooms.
Research and Enquiries Room and Library

Drop in and use our free resources, including computers with access to digitised records, help desks for expert advice, and a reference library.
Document reading rooms

We have two spaces where you can read original historical documents: the Document Reading Room, and the Map and Large Document Reading Room.
Our grounds

Our home in Kew includes beautiful grounds including our Pocket Park, two lakes enjoyed by local swans and wildfowl, and a paved terrace.
Quiet spaces

We have a number of areas available for visitors needing a quieter space for research, prayer or reflection.
Family visits
